Kudos & Core Values

Boost the morale of your team by putting Kudos to work!

Updated this week

Our Kudos & Core Values component is a tool to help enable your Workers to recognize the outstanding behaviour of their coworkers according to your company's values!

As an administrator, you get to choose which values are made available to your Workers. They can then select another Worker, a value that Worker exemplifies, and add a note detailing why that Worker deserves kudos.

Setting up Kudos & Core Values for the First Time

Enabling the Component

To begin, you will need to enable the component from your Admin dash. Click the Kudos & Core Values component on your admin dash. In the opening screen, toggle the Disable/Enabled toggle to Enabled. Click the Save button in the top right corner to finalize your choice. After that, the component will appear as expected on your Admin dashboard, but with a red warning - you need to create a Core Value! We will get to that in just a bit.

Tailoring your Settings

Within the Settings tab, you can set how frequently your Workers can send kudos to others. You can choose a weekly, monthly, or quarterly window for your Workers to send kudos within.

Kudos is also unique in that you can provide Workers rewards points both for sending kudos and for receiving them! You can choose to award kudos without Rewards points at all, or you can set the giving and receiving each from 1 to 10 points per kudo.

When you're happy with your Settings choices, click the Save button in the top right corner.

Setting up Permissions

After enabling the component, you'll also need to review the Permissions for Kudos & Core Values. You can navigate to the Permissions tab along the top of the screen and verify the permissions for your team. Workers and Admins alike will need the View and Insert Permission for My Kudos to be able to view and create kudos.

For your Admins, you'll see permissions for Core Values and for kudos. You can control those as you see fit.

When you're happy with your Permission choices, click the Save button in the top right corner of the screen.

Creating your Core Values

You will need at least one Core Value in the component for your Workers to be able to recognize one another. To create a Core Value, navigate to the Core Values tab along the top of the screen.

Click the Add Core Value button to create a Core Value.

In the Core Value creation screen, you'll have the option to choose a Value, a colour, and a description for that value. You'll need to make a colour choice and enter information in the other two fields.

Click the Save button to finalize your Core Value.

After adding your Core Value(s), they'll appear in your Core Values list. Each line will contain your Core Value's name, description, number of kudos sent in the past 30 days, top receivers, and top senders. The top receiver and top sender fields will populate with data once your team has begun sending kudos.

You can use the dots icon at the left end of each item to drag these core values in your list if you would like to reorder them.

To make changes to a core value, click into it in your main core value list. Names for core values can't be changed, but descriptions and colours can be!

You can use the colour selector dropdown to select a new colour, and the text box for your description. Whatever changes you make, be sure to hit the Save button in the top right corner to save them.

If you need to delete your Core Values, please note that all but one of the Values can be deleted. The system will retain one at all times.

With your Core Values in place, your workers will be able to recognize one another by sending a Kudo!

Core Values Metrics

Once your team has begun sending one another Kudos, your Core Values dashboard will populate with the data generated. In the top left corner, you'll see a panel with your Top Core Values and a donut graph.

This panel indicates your top three most-used Core Values. The donut graph will show all your Core Values and proportionally indicate how many each type was used by the size of the segment in its colour. You can hover over each segment to see a percentage breakdown.

Next to the Top Core Values panel, you'll see a Kudos by Month bar graph. This graph indicates how many kudos were sent for each month of the last 12 months. Hovering over each column will indicate precisely how many kudos were sent each month.

Finally, on the right end of that row is a Trend box. The trend will indicate two things to admins: the trend over the past 7 days, and the trend over the past 30 days. The trend can help you get a better picture of what's top of mind for your team!

In the top right corner of the core values screen, you'll see a Download button. Download options for this screen include PDF and CSV reports, each of which will summarize the data present on the screen.

In the centre panel of the screen, you can also click into your core values for more information on them. You'll see another bar graph and trend indicators for the core value, along with your top three senders and receivers of your chosen core value. Like the main list, you can hover over the bars to see how many kudos were sent during that particular period.

You can filter the data shown on the screen using the Filter button in the top left corner of the screen. The page will automatically filter to show data from the last year, but you can extend or shorten that period, or filter by location(s) if you desire.

Sending Kudos

From the Worker dash, your team can send kudos to others.

When a Worker navigates to the Kudos & Core Values component on their Worker dash, the component will open to show the option to send a kudo, as well as a display of the kudos they have sent and received.

Click the Send Kudo button to begin sending one to another worker.

A pop-up will appear with the options needed. In the top line, begin typing the Recipient for the kudo. When the system suggests a name, click that name.

You can select with of the Core Values you want to send a kudo to this person for by clicking the radio button beside it.

Beneath that there is a box for a note to include in the kudo. The information entered here will be visible to the Worker you sent the kudo to as well as any administrator with admin permissions to the component, so please be respectful.

When you're ready to send your kudo, click the Send button at the bottom of the pop-up.

After having sent at least one kudo, the main kudo page will update. Any kudos you receive will also populate this page!

You can use the quick filters at the top of the page to view New, My Received, or My Sent kudos.

You will be able to send one kudo per period. The period length is set by an administrator, and can be weekly, monthly, or quarterly. The banner at the top of the page will tell you when you can send another kudo!

When you receive kudos, you will also receive an email notification. If you would like to turn those notifications off, you can toggle them off in your Worker Profile from your Worker dash.

We hope Kudos & Core Values encourages your team to recognize and encourage excellent workplace behaviour. If you run into any trouble administering or using this component, please reach out to out Support team at [email protected] or by clicking the orange bubble in the bottom let corner of your Workhub dash.
