Worker Guide: How to Request a Competency Assessment

A Competency is a list of requirements and skills that you must complete to show you are fully qualified for specific tasks. To achieve a status of Competent, you must complete all prerequisites and pass a practical evaluation with a qualified Assessor.

How to Request a Competency Assessment

🛠️ Step 1: Check Your Prerequisites

Before you can ask an Assessor to evaluate your skills, you must complete your training requirements.

  1. Log into your Worker Dashboard.

  2. Click on the Competencies tile.

  3. Select the specific Competency you want to complete from your list.

  4. Look at the Prerequisites section. You will see icons indicating your status:

    • For Unassigned Prerequisites please contact your company System Administrator to have them assign this required item to you.

⚠️ Important: You cannot request a physical assessment if any prerequisite displays a Red Flag, All items must be green.

📋 Step 2: Review the Assessment Criteria

Once your prerequisites are fully complete, take a moment to look over what you will be tested on.

  1. Review the Assessment Criteria section on the same page.

  2. Review the list of skills, steps, or safety guidelines.

  3. Your Assessor will use this exact list to grade your performance during your hands-on evaluation.

✉️ Step 3: Request Your Assessment

When you are fully prepared and your prerequisites are green, you can submit your evaluation request. You are only able to send one request per Competency.

  1. Click the Request Assessment button at the top right of the page.

  2. Select your Assessor from the dropdown menu of qualified evaluators and select continue

  3. Add any optional notes for your Assessor (e.g., your preferred time, date, or location for the evaluation)

  4. Click Request.

  5. If you have submitted in error, you can choose to cancel the request but you will need to provide a reason

📬 System Behavior: Submitting an Assessment Request creates an instant notification icon on the designated Assessor's Worker Dashboard competency tile and sends them an automated alert to complete the task.

📈 Step 4: Track Your Competency Status

After submitting, your request is sent directly to your chosen Assessor's dashboard. You can track your ongoing status by looking at the color-coded badge next to the competency on your dashboard:

  • 🔴 Red "To Do" Status: You are currently marked as Not Assessed or Requires Supervision.

  • 🟢 Green "Done" Status: Your Assessor has approved your evaluation! You are now marked as Competent or Instructor/Assessor.

  • 🔘 Grey "Completed" or blank Status: This competency is completely Optional for your current job position.

🗂️ Step 5: Review History

After submission, you will return to your Assessments page.

  1. Click on any historical entry to review its details.

  2. Download the latest assessment sheet.

🔍 Troubleshooting:

Missing "Competencies" Component?

If you log into your dashboard and cannot see the Competencies tile, check the following reasons:

  • Missing Permissions: Your specific job position might lack the permission to view competencies. Your system administrator will need to update your role permissions.

  • No Competencies Assigned: If your role does not have any required or optional competencies mapped to it, the component may stay hidden.

  • What to do: Contact your internal System Administrator or Safety Coordinator. Ask them to verify that the View Competencies permission is enabled for your position and that the specific competency has been assigned to your role.
